The matura paper of Vanessa Zweifel supervised by Thomas Hofstetter was written about volunteer work in a local sports club upon the example of the EC Wil. Based on theoretical background there were theses made about the reasons people have for volunteer work, the demographic situation in the EC Wil, the amount of time volunteer workers spend on their volunteer work in the EC Wil, the number of Volunteers compared to the number of licenced hockey players and about the percentage of volunteer workers who are former hockey players. Two surveys were conducted one only in the managing committee and one for all other volunteer workers in the EC Wil. With regard to the theses there were specific questions asked about the reasons for their voluntary commitment, general information about the people who do volunteer work, the duration and the amount of their engagement and many other aspects. The results from 62 people who filed in the survey were evaluated and then compared to the assumptions made in the theses. Some results of the situation in the EC Wil were quite close to the numbers and assumptions made in the hypotheses at the beginning of the process, other results deviated more from the assumed results. The result that deviated the most was the one about the amount of full-time employments it would need to cover all the volunteer work in the EC Wil. The survey showed that this number would be twice as high as assumed.
